Central Pa. Stroke Radiation Victims and CT Brain Scan Lawsuits

Has a family member suffered a stroke in Central Pa.? Did he or she receive a CT brain scan after the stroke?

Worker's Compensation

Did you know there are three major causes of stroke that disrupt the blood supply to the brain? The causes are:

When a blood clot forms within the wall of an artery which supplies blood to the brain; this is the most common cause of stroke and is called thrombosis.

When a wandering blood clot lodges in a small blood vessel in the brain, blood flow is blocked past that point. This is called embolus.

When a blood vessel in the brain bursts, the surrounding brain tissue is compressed by the blood flooding out of the artery. A hemorrhage or bursting aneurism may occur or from long-term high blood pressure. This is called cerebral hemorrhage.

How is a stroke diagnosed?

The hospital monitors clinical signs as well as performing some procedures using complex medical devices such as angiogram, EEG, MRI, and CT (cat) scan. The CT scan is uses radiation to the brain to create an image of the brain. The CT scan provides information to doctors about the cause of stroke, location of stroke, and extent of the brain damage.

Unfortunately, the CT brain scan has come under fire recently when an article in the New York Times and segments on NPR have revealed extremely high radiation output causing serious life-threatening side effects such as vision and memory loss, brain damage, and long-term risk of cancer.
