If the answer is yes - you may not be not alone. Other people have contacted us about this knee replacement system.
Two renowned orthopedic surgeons presented a study to the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons last year. The important study mentioned in the NY Times suggested that after only two years in use, this particular Zimmer NexGen knee replacement system had a failure rate of 9.3% and slightly more than one third of the implants were loose. Plus, more than half of the 100 patients in the study experienced knee pain and other problems, perhaps from the implant loosening.
Knee implants like hip implants are supposed to last 15 to 20 years, not two years. A knee implant has major surgery risks such as possible exposure to anesthetic complications, surgical and post-surgical infections, and pain and suffering. The patient and his or her family incurs more medical bills and pharmaceutical expenses, time off work if employed, and more care giving issues.
A second or revision surgery is always more complex than the initial knee implant surgery. If you have concerns about your knee implant, please contact us to share your story and to have us evaluate your case.
